What’s that you say? You think that boosting your Facebook posts is a good idea?
I don’t blame you. There’s lots of bad information out there and even more people who are profiting from it. Facebook sure is, so why shouldn’t others?
Here’s why you should never touch that “Boost Post” button again unless you’ve done your research and know exactly what will happen as a result:
Rant over.
Yesterday I showed a client exactly how to promote a post on her page so that the right people would see it and take the right action. It can be done, but just not with that button. So please, I beg of you, resist the urge!
Instead, learn to target smart or bring in a pro to get your ads set up and running in no time!
Hi Claire,
I have a home remodeling contractor client where we’ve been doing VLOG’s for over a year…he is pretty good in front of a camera…I do boost posts sometimes ($5) but I use Insights so we know demographics, Graph Search for Psychographics to target the boost and I think I have a pretty good handle on our audience….anyhow, I enjoyed your Power Editor e-Book on that, but what is the diff in this case because I target our audience pretty well I think with a boost. Thanks!
BTW, what’s your kitty’s name?
Cheers,
Mark
Hey Mark, sounds like you’re one of the few who’s got a good handle on how to accurately boost their posts. Mind if I ask what kind of posts you’re promoting? Are they links to blog posts or to specific videos? In other words, what’s your end game? So long as you’ve got that nailed down, then by all means, keep doing what you’re doing!
Oh, and the cat’s name is Larry David. And she’s female (but I was told she was male when I adopted her at 1 month)! She’ll be so pleased you noticed her. :)
I totally agree! Facebook definitely takes advantage of people that are, understandably, uninformed. The Promote Page button is equally as evil.
Yup, I cringe every time I see it. That’s not to say that running ads to get more likes is a bad idea, so long as you’re aware that you’re going to need to spend even more money to reach those new fans. Most people are, as you put it, understandably uniformed, so they don’t realize what the cost of a “like” really is.
Thanks for stopping by, Susan!
Thanks for this Claire. I’ve only just started looking into FB posts and I definitely noticed that FB tempts you to boost posts just for the sake of it. Luckily enough I’ve read and listened to several podcasts and videos that share the same message as you- use it with caution and strategy.
You’re so welcome! Good thing you’ve stayed informed and aren’t throwing away your money. :)
